So sorry to hear about Wotsit. Our pets are always a part of us. Your quote about grief rings true... it never really gets better but it changes over time, and you get through it. I hope that mantra gives you some strength during this difficult time.

Doing things that are "different" is so important for personal growth. Even if it doesn't feel good at the time it will always lead to new paths that might feel better. Widening your experience is what being alive is really about. To tie it into cooking there are so many people who will dismiss a dish or flavor before ever having tried it just out of instinct. That's not living.

My beautiful 7 year old cat Wilbur was hit by a car in the summer, right outside my home. I think of him daily and miss him terribly. He used to like to cross the road in our village to play with another cat in their garden.

I’m thinking maybe in the new year I will get a couple of rescue kittens. Life goes on and I know there with be another bundle of joy out there waiting for me. x

Hi Steph

I'm very sorry to hear about your cat Wotsit, my cat Princess also just passed from kidney failure, she was very old but pets are family ❤ sorry for your loss.

Your Chickpea curry and Conchas look amazing, love to give them a go, although I don't have a mixer so I don't think the Conchas would be possible.

Also your book finally arrived, looking forward to trying those recipes out too.

Hope you have a good week this week, take care of yourself ❤

Dearest Steph,

Right there with you all the way. What a week. You gave Wotsit the best life ever. He was the luckiest, most blessed cat because he got to live a whopping 18 months with you and your Mum! Life's precious and he was very sweet, reminding us of what matters. Keep being who you are, doing what you do - every second means so much, more than you'll ever know. Wish I could visit you on a Saturday because I'd probably want to buy everything at your shop. I'd be hard-pressed to rein it in given the cost crisis, indeed a nightmare for us too. We'll get through it. Don't worry about any job you decide to leave, as some jobs are for leaving! At least now you know, and you have the time to search for the RIGHT one for you, no use mucking about in the wrong one, trekking through rain with an inside-out umbrella to get there, when you could be inside baking Conchas...

Speaking of... you know you've got a real gift when you can turn out such beauties. I'm familiar with Conchas having visited many Mexican panaderias, but to be honest I was never impressed with the flavor or texture of the Concha. But your recipe (and that marvelous photo) is definitely prompting a second look with completely renewed curiosity. Yours certainly look different (and better!).

"So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love." 1 Cor. 13:13. And this week, praying for an extra huge helping of the aforementioned... especially love.

So sorry about your cat. I'm sure it's heartbreaking. I have long subscribed to the same "just make it through today" philosophy. Good for you for doing something different and sticking with it. That can be so hard but so rewarding. Proud of you.

Steph, I’m so sorry about your cat. I’m so proud of you for sticking with your job and you should be too. Change is hard and I agree that sometimes it doesn’t get better it just gets different and that’s hard too. I’m struggling with living in Germany. I’m glad you have your Mum to support you in person! I would love to try something you bake sometime. I bet it’s all delicious.

I wanted to tell you I’m so sorry about Wotsit and thinking of you and your mum. I think you have done so well to even tip up here - I do think your community would understand. You are stronger than you know. New jobs are rough like that - you can’t know until you’re in that place whether it’s for you - so maybe just keep swimming (like Dory) for a bit.

When life gives you lemons you’re meant to make lemonade I think - and I think your baking really fits that. Sending lots of love x

Hi there. So proud of you for keeping going with the job. Not all jobs are great fun (hence why it’s called work!) but if you can appreciate that you’re helping others that is a great feeling. You may learn to like it a bit and love your colleagues. Also re Wotsit I am so so sorry. I have lost two cats over the years to road traffic and it is heart breaking. The last was the brother of our current cat who, like yours, went wandering at about 18 months. His sister however is more timid and still with us at 16 1/2. Hopefully one day you will feel the strength to get another fur baby to love. So thanks for a great newsletter, amazed you managed to send it out and sending lots of hugs xx
